How should patients with kidney abscess exercise?

Patients with kidney abscess should engage in gentle, repetitive exercises such as walking, cycling, swimming, and dancing… avoiding strenuous physical activities that could harm their health…

1. The role of exercise for patients with kidney abscess

Exercise is very important for helping everyone live happily and healthily with a strong body. For patients with kidney abscess, during the phase of symptoms such as fever accompanied by chills, uncontrollable shivering, excessive sweating, abdominal pain, rapid heartbeat… it is advisable to rest to allow the body to recover.

Once health has improved, patients should exercise with appropriate activities to help enhance their health and increase their energy levels. Regular exercise helps the body become more active and flexible, making it easier to perform daily tasks.

In addition, exercise also has the following effects:

  • Increases endurance so you don’t feel tired when doing heavy work.
  • Increases muscle strength.
  • Helps stabilize blood pressure.
  • Reduces blood fats (cholesterol and triglycerides).
  • Improves sleep quality.
  • Helps achieve a slimmer body.

2. Some good exercises for patients with kidney abscess

Patients with kidney abscess can choose exercises to continuously engage large muscle groups such as walking, swimming, cycling (indoors or outdoors), aerobic exercises, etc. Alternatively, they can opt for lower-intensity exercises like light movements in place, which are also very beneficial for health. It is important to focus on gentle exercises that are repeated multiple times and to avoid lifting heavy objects while exercising.

Walking: Walking provides many positive health benefits for patients. Just walking for a minimum of less than 30 minutes once a week can be beneficial, but walking for longer and more frequently can offer even greater benefits.

Cycling: Cycling is an exercise that helps improve cardiovascular health and enhances muscle strength. Depending on personal conditions and preferences, one can cycle indoors or outdoors, both providing the same health benefits.

Swimming: Swimming is a full-body exercise that helps enhance overall health. Maintaining a regular exercise routine helps improve mental state and allows patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

– Aerobic exercise: Gentle aerobic activities offer many benefits for cardiovascular and muscular health. However, patients with kidney abscess should only participate in aerobic exercises with low to moderate intensity, avoiding overexertion.

Avoid participating in contact sports, high-intensity activities such as soccer, basketball, tennis, martial arts, weightlifting, carrying heavy objects, or performing yoga poses like headstands or rope climbing.

3. Notes during the training process

When planning a workout, patients with kidney abscess need to pay attention to three factors: training time, frequency, and intensity.

– Regarding workout frequency, it is advisable to start with at least about 30 minutes each day, then gradually increase the workout time. If possible, aim to increase exercise duration to 45 to 60 minutes daily. To achieve effective training, one should work out at least 3 days a week, on alternate days, for example, Monday – Wednesday – Friday.

– Regarding the intensity of exercise for kidney abscess patients, the level of training will vary depending on each individual’s strength, and it is important to note:
  • Do not exercise to the point of being unable to talk to those around you (it is advisable to work out with a friend or family member). After finishing the workout, you should still feel as healthy as usual (if you feel prolonged fatigue after exercising, you need to reduce the intensity of your workout next time).
  • Muscles should not feel excessively sore after exercising, and you should still be able to train in the next session.
  • The intensity should be at a level that feels comfortable for you.
  • Start slowly to warm up, then gradually increase to the desired intensity and decrease as you approach the end. This is to help the body gradually adapt and avoid injuries.
– Plan workouts for the days of the week:
  • Exercise at least 1 hour after eating.
  • Avoid exercising during the hottest part of the day.
  • It is better to work out in the morning or evening.
  • Do not exercise less than 1 hour before going to bed.
– Note on exercise that does not harm health:
  • For kidney patients in general and those with renal abscesses in particular, it is necessary to avoid overexertion.
  • Do not exercise when the patient has symptoms of fever; has recently changed medication; or has just been discharged from the hospital.
  • When the weather is too hot and dry, one should exercise in an air-conditioned room.
  • If there are issues with bones and joints that may worsen with exercise.
  • Especially after stopping exercise for the above reasons, patients should consult a doctor before resuming exercise.
